Rest in Peace Sweet Penelope

Today My Happy Place isn't so happy.  My sweet dachshund, Penelope, went to visit God, Jesus and her sister Genevieve after a mishap when she was at the vet to be spayed.  She was only 5 years old and was perfectly healthy when she went in.  I know that it isn't the vet's fault, and everything happens for a reason ~ but I miss her tremendously.  Apparently, she had seizures about 15 minutes after she woke up from the surgery.  The vet tried to revive her for 30 minutes to no avail.  We also have 2 of her puppies from her only litter and daddy dog.

My sweet "Nelly P" forever in my heart.

Czar and Blythe, two of her beautiful babies.

Daddy dog, Riley.  He has been looking for her all afternoon ~ tears.

Here's to happier times when the sadness fades.

Just a quick post to show my night stand redo :)

Little vintage night stand BEFORE (bought for $5 at a church garage sale):

Needed gray paint, so I went to the mis-tint shelves at Lowes and found gray.  I also found a bunch of other colors.  I ended up buying over $100 worth of paint for $25!!  SCORE!

Little vintage night stand AFTER:

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE these knobs!!

Thanks for popping by!

Before and After Pictures

Wanted to post some pictures of projects that I have finished recently, but haven't had time to post.

This little patio set we picked up from the curb on heavy trash day.  We couldn't believe that someone would throw it away, but glad they did because it looks too cute on our patio now!

BEFORE:

and AFTER...

I also made this wreath for spring.  Thought it went cute with the new patio set!

Here is a before and after of my mom's end table that I have now.  My mom has had this table since I was a baby, that is over 40 years!  Anyway, I glued it back together and gave it a coat of white paint to match our Disney game room.  I think I like it!

BEFORE:

That door was actually in 5 separate pieces.  Some gorilla glue and it is good as new!

It had quite a bit of water damage too.  Some sanding and that was taken care of.

and AFTER:

Thanks for stopping by!

A Spur-of-the-Moment Armoire Redo

I woke up this morning excited to finish painting the wooden frame that I picked up this weekend at a garage sale.  The paint that I got from the mis-tint bin at Home Depot was just the perfect color of blue.  I couldn't wait to get the frame completed.  However, as I was finishing up, it hit me...This is the PERFECT color for my armoire that separates my study from formal dining/home school area.  Check out these pix :)

I forgot to take a picture before I started painting, but here is a quick snap of the side.  The markings are where I marked my oldest daughter's growth.  We have had this armoire since we got married. Since we rented for the first few years after having Brittany, I kept her growth marks on this piece. That way it stayed with us no matter what :)

This is my favorite part...the rhinestone vintage-y looking knobs. $3.50 each at Hobby Lobby after discount (originally $7.00 each). I need to buy 2 more for the bottom doors that I didn't think were salvagable, but thanks to gorilla glue ~ I saved them!

How about that for a spur-of-the-moment project!

Vintage desk revamp

Today was such a beautiful day that I just wanted to be outside.  So I went into the garage and pulled out the little vintage desk that I picked up yesterday and started working on it.  It took a lot of elbow grease to get it cleaned and sanded well enough to paint, but I got it done.  I took the desk apart to make it easier to clean and paint.  Here it is BEFORE:

And the back...apparently this desk has been 3 different colors in the past.

This is a picture of the underside.  Just look at all of the gum!

I took the top off and started sanding and cleaning it up.

Next I started spray painting with Rustoleum Candy Pink spray paint.  I really like this brand better than Krylon.  It hardly drips at all.

I painted the desktop with chalkboard paint (top and underside).

This project only took a couple of hours, and it turned out so cute!

Let me leave you with some fabulous finds from a visit to an estate sale today ~ my house is filling up!

This holds 4 crystal ashtrays.  I guess it was used back when smoking was fashionable so they could hand an ashtray to each person that smoked.  It was so pretty that I couldn't pass it up!

Beautiful vintage linens with hand-crocheted trim.

I just love these little metal jewelry boxes.

And I am a total sucker for vanity mirrors!

Thanks for visiting!  I will post my next project soon :)

A Little Garage Sale Goodness!

I haven't been to a garage sale in forever.  So my sweetie took today off and drove me around to garage sales all morning.  How sweet is that?!  Of course we started our excursion off by stopping at Starbuck's for our daily gingerbread latte.  David is addicted to the stuff, even has Sandy order extra so he can buy it for our personal stash (since it is only seasonal at the store).  Anyhoo, look at the spoils from our garage sale-ing today.  I can't wait to get started on all of it!

Total cost for everything here...$23.50!!

Vintage solid wood picture frame ~ $2.00

This dresser is precious.  The woman that I bought it from told me that her Great-great grandfather built it from scratch.  It is built really well and is solid wood.

$10.00 paid for a vintage hand-made dresser - pretty good I think!

Vintage school desk ~ $2.50, Yes 2 dollars and 50 cents!

Shelves ~ $2.50

This little nightstand was $10, but my smooth talking hubby talked them down to $6.50.  Can you believe it was only $6.50?!

Look at the gorgeous design in the wood.

It has a bit of damage, but definitely repairable.

Gotta run, have a bunch of furniture to work on ~ LOL!
Have a fantabulous weekend!
