The Storage Cube

This little cube was found on the curb like so many other pieces.  My husband was speechless to say the least.   He said, "what in the world can you do with that?  It's a MESS."  Well, priming and sanding do a lot to help, but add custom paint and wahlah ~ He LOVES it!

Now on to the next project!

Excitement is overtaking me!  I think I am addicted to finding free furniture on heavy trash day.  I may need an intervention.  Look at my picks this week ~ I call it picking (like American Pickers) because it doesn't sound near as bad as "dumpster diving."  LOL!

I have just found so many goodies!  Thank goodness my dear hubby likes to do this as much as I do!

This little box is actually my very first pick.  It started my whole obsession!

I totally couldn't believe anyone would throw this table set away!  It appears to be almost brand new.  I plan on painting it and adding an umbrella with Shabby Chic-ish fabric.  I am also going to add matching seat cushions.  Can't wait to finish this project!

My darling daughter found this little guy and couldn't resist picking him up.  She just couldn't leave him sitting in the trash.  We are going to add a handle and repair the reins, and he may get a paint job.  Just too cute!

This seat just needs to be recovered and have its legs tightened.  Other than that, it's a very comfy little bench that will look really cute at the foot of our bed.  I am thinking about using a vintage quilts that I have (it is in some disrepair so I don't mind using it for upholstery).  I am still trying to decide on that one though.

Okay, this one was absolutely crazy.  This diaper changing stand looks brand new.  The only thing was that one of the boards on the bottom had separated from the frame.  We added a new dowel and some gorilla glue.  Now it is as good as new!  We are selling it on Craig's list.  (Of course, I have washed it down with disinfectant just to be sure that it is clean!)

Here is an armoire we found.  It is still sitting in the garage waiting for some much needed love.  It is solid wood and in pretty good shape.  The only major problem is some rotten wood at the base.  I am going to replace the wood and then paint this diamond in the rough white.

This table is VERY old. It had really old linoleum on top that had faded and cracked.  It was so old that I was able to pull it off by hand.  I am going to refinish it and turn it into a potting stand.  The little flower box was picked along with the table.  I am going to attach it to the stand somehow to hold potting tools.  I am super excited about this one too!

Well that's about it for now.  I have tons of projects to get started on and can't wait!  Check back soon, I hope to finish a couple of these each week.  Of course, Tuesday's and Thursday's are picking days - so hopefully, I will find more goodies!

Hope you have a wonderful day!

A Cute Little Antique Table

I got this beautiful little table at my local antique shop.  It's leg had fallen off, and the whole table was unstable and close to falling apart.  I forgot to take a picture of the table before I took it apart, but I seem to be a bit forgetful lately and extremely excited to get started on my new project!  So here it is after I dismantled it (I wanted to re-glue and reinforce the whole thing).

BEFORE:

And AFTER...oops, Czar wanted to be in the picture!

I painted the table an eggshell white that I bought from the mis-tint shelves at Lowe's for $3.00.

Then, I used a wipe on stain to give it a distressed look.

Now it is ready for my booth.  The only problem is that the craft shows aren't until the fall.  Where am I going to put all of my goodies that I am refinishing?  They are filling up my house, and hubby is getting tired of looking at them.  Guess it's time to finish unpacking all of the boxes from our move and clean up the garage!

Rocking Chair Update

Here is a picture of the restored rocking chair.  I can't believe I got it back together, but that Gorilla Glue is AMAZING!!

Here is the before picture:

And AFTER...

You can't even tell that it was once in pieces.  I have painted a couple more coats and sanded it smooth since these photos, and I am going to add a little bit of antique bling to it when I find the perfect pieces.  Then it is going into my booth stock.  Can't say enough great things about Gorilla Glue...just DON'T get it on your fingers!!

Well, they are finally finished!  I think they turned out pretty nice.  Here's the finished product...

The shelves were just a bit wider than we had room for, so we cut a section out to allow us to turn the lights on and off without sticking our hand behind the shelves.  The trim around it is just a dollar store picture frame.

Total cost for this project was $16.00 - $12 for the molding, $4.00 for the paint, which was from the mis-tinted bin at Lowes, and the bead board backing was free (we already had the bead board from a previous project.)

Stop by again soon and see what I do with this poor little rocking chair that my sweet hubby rescued before it became landfill.

Hugs,
Deanna

Book Shelves

My friend gave me these awesome 7 ft. tall book shelves. Of course when they were offered to me, Mr. David's first comment was, "Really? And where are we supposed to put them? They are just particle board shelves. Do we really need them?" Well, I told him that I had big plans for them thanks to Pinterest yet again!

Immediately, I moved the smaller set of shelves that we had in the game room and brought in the new set. They were so big that they covered the light switch. No problem, I had seen something like this before. We just cut a hole in the shelf backing to accommodate the light switch.

After I cut the light switch opening in the original cheapy backboard that came with shelves, I used it as a template. I traced the back board onto wainscoting that I had purchased eons ago for another project, Mr. David used his carpentry skills to cut it out. I reused the nails from the original backing and attached the wainscoting to shelf frame.

Unfortunately, I didn't take a picture of the shelves before I started all of this, but here is a picture after I replaced the backing with wainscoting.  The original backing was just that brown card board stuff.

I think these shelves are going to be amazing when they are finished!  I will be posting progress on these beauties as I work on them!

Finished!

It's finally finished!  I had a few mishaps with the spray paint and our humid weather down here, but those are fixed and lessons learned.

Here are the bookshelves after they were rescued from the trash.

Project Progress

After we finished home school this morning, I started in on my new project.  I couldn't wait to get back to it!  I decided that the sides of the shelves were just to boring when they were a solid color.  So, I added some swirly things around the door and window.  Then, I felt it just needed a little bit of bling to go with that cute little chandelier.  Here are pictures of my progress so far.

The window and door frames are still outside drying.

Here are a couple of pictures of the whole thing put together.  Of course, I am still adding details.  It's easier to figure out exactly what I want to do when I can see it all together!

Will post the finished product tomorrow!  Time to get some sleep!!
